Put Your Lips to God’s Ear

While speaking extensively with a lovely elderly woman from Ames at a Hillary Clinton rally, I shared my optimistic theory about the upcoming caucus. I told her I believed (or hoped) that Trump’s poll numbers were inflated given his name recognition and entertainment value, two aspects of his appeal that do not necessarily translate into electoral support. This theory was partially corroborated by her friend of a friend’s reason for supporting Trump: “He entertains her.” I also explained my belief (or hope) that the Trump voters would not caucus given that Trump supporters are not your typical voter, certainly not your typical caucus-goer, and many are even Democrats who would have to reregister as Republicans to vote. She smiled and nodded as I finished my theory and responded, “Put your lips to God’s ear.”
